If you live in England & Wales, you could benefit from a Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) tariff.

The Smart Export Guarantee is a support mechanism designed to ensure small-scale generators are paid for the renewable electricity they export to the grid. It has been in place since 1 January 2020. You will be eligible to apply if you are having solar panels installed at your house. Following the closure of the Feed-in Tariff (FIT) scheme to new applicants in March 2019, the government recognised the need to pay small-scale renewable energy generators for the electricity they export to the grid. Consequently, the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) introduced the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG).

Reduce your energy bills

During daylight hours, you’ll be generating electricity even on cloudy days, but if you’re using more power around your home than your panels are generating, or during the evening when your panels are not generating any electricity, you’ll be supplementing this by importing electricity from the grid. Reducing your electricity use can help lower your bills and reduce your carbon footprint. If you’re claiming a Smart Export Guarantee tariff, you’ll receive a payment for every unit of electricity you export. Remember to turn devices off and avoid standby

Solar panel

A solar PV panel consists of many cells made from layers of semi-conducting material, most commonly silicon. When light shines on this material, a flow of electricity is created. The cells don’t need direct sunlight to work and can even work on cloudy days. However, the stronger the sunshine, the more electricity generated. Solar PV systems are made up of several panels, with each panel generating around 355W of energy in strong sunlight. Typical systems contain around 15 panels and generate direct current (DC) electricity. Because the electricity used for household appliances is alternating current (AC), an inverter is installed along with the system to convert DC electricity to AC. This electricity can be used throughout your home, or exported to the grid.

  • Saving Water and Money.
  • Low Maintenance.
  • Improving Grid Security & Creating Jobs

Solar battery storage

An energy storage system allows you to capture heat or electricity when it is readily available, typically from a renewable energy system, storing it for you to use later. Electricity can be stored in electrical batteries, or it can be converted into heat and stored in a heat battery. Heat can also be stored in heat batteries or in thermal storage, such as a hot water cylinder. Energy storage can be useful for people who generate their own renewable energy, as it allows them to use more of their low carbon energy. Electrical batteries help you make the most of renewable electricity For example, electricity generated during the day by solar PV panels could be stored in an electric battery for you to use for boiling the kettle or watching TV in the evening when your solar PV panels are no longer generating electricity. The battery size and its cost will depend on your current energy use and the size of any generation technologies you have installed.

  • Ensuring the power can be used whenever needed
  • Less dependent on the grid
  • Reduce your carbon footprint
  • Minimise electric bills
  • Store energy purchased at off-peak times
  • Distribution of energy at their highest
  • Avoiding 'red tariffs' when prices are at their highest
  • Combat rising electricity costs
  • Energy independent from the grid
  • Store energy to use at times of peak demand
  • Link up renewable energy to storage
  • Sell energy back to the grid

FAQ

How to determine the best Solar Panel models for my property?

When choosing your panel, you will frequently consider various factors, such as appearance, cost-effectiveness, performance, a record of accomplishment, and guarantees. Our engineers thoroughly understand the market and may suggest panels based on your particular needs.

What kind of warranty will be included with my solar system?

A performance guarantee from the manufacturer will be included with your solar panels. (10-25 years) Various manufacturers provide a variety of warranties, with the most premium levels of security typically connected with the more expensive panels. Before making a purchase, it's a good idea to make sure you comprehend the warranty.

How much time will the installation require?

Installations of solar panels in homes often last no more than a day and cause minor inconvenience scaffolding will typically be put up a few days before the Solar PV installation team shows up. The inverter will then be installed, followed by the panels mounted on the roof before the inside wiring is finished.

Do solar panels require frequent cleaning?

If solar panels are installed at an angle greater than 15 degrees, they typically self-clean. However, if you reside in an unusually dusty environment, it is advisable to visually inspect them once a year and rinse them if necessary.

What kind of service and upkeep should I anticipate for my solar panels?

Every year or if you see odd patterns in your generation, are advised that you have your solar panels inspected and repaired. Your local office can provide information regarding our regular service and maintenance package.

Is it possible that my solar panels could fall off the roof?

Very improbable because we construct our installations to meet specific demands while considering wind and load bearing when we install solar PV panels. Our panels will permanently be installed at least 30 cm from the roof's edge to prevent excessive wind loads.

How can I connect my solar panels to my home's electricity supply?

The inverter converts the electricity your photovoltaic solar panels generate from DC (direct current) to AC (alternating current), which is used to power your home. An AC cable transfers the electricity from the inverter to your distribution board, which powers the circuits in your house.

Can I leave the grid if I have solar panels?

Because solar PV panels can only generate electricity during the day, they cannot supply you with electricity continuously. You would also need a storage system, alternate energy sources, and solar PV panels to go off the grid. You will get credit from the grid for any excess energy.

Will solar increase a property's value?

Yes. According to studies, houses with solar energy systems are worth more when put on the market. However, your home's worth will rise if you own your solar panel system rather than lease it. Going solar will typically improve the value of your home more than remodelling the kitchen.

How much is solar energy?

It is difficult to estimate a precise cost because it depends on several parameters, such as the number of panels required. Still, solar panels are about 70% less expensive than in 2010.

Does my roof need to be South-facing to install Solar Panels?

Any roof facing South, southeast, or southwest is suitable for solar panels. The panels will operate more efficiently and generate more electricity if they are South facing 35 degrees. Your solar panels will still perform at 86 percent (relative to South facing) whether they are facing due East or West.

Do I have enough space on my roof to have Solar Panels installed?

You can install solar panels on your land or your roof. We propose a 2.5-kilowatt Solar PV system because it could easily fit on top of a typical 3-bed semi-detached property.

Will my solar system require sunlight all day long?

No, solar panels function in daytime hours and perform best at 10°C. They lose efficiency if it gets too hot—0.01% for every 15°C increase. The typical solar panel array should produce between 8 and 10 k per square foot.

Will I have power in the event of a power outage?

Your inverter will turn off if a power outage prevents any generation from your solar panels from accessing the property. These security measures are intended to safeguard employees who could be repairing the grid. However, if there is a power outage, we may create a backup system to let you use your solar power.

Do I need to switch to an export meter for my power meter?

Suppose you do not already have a smart meter. In that case, most electricity providers will install one accessible for you if you want to be reimbursed for any excess electricity you create. Some meters, however, are compatible.

Have I missed the Feed-in Tariff opportunity?

Yes. On the other hand, the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) ensures that you will be paid for any extra electricity you produce and return to the grid.
